This company was contractually responsible for in-country manufacturing in support of the Korean cellular market. The company requested a complete third party review of the existing suppliers so that they could make more informed decisions moving forward in manufacturing and releasing their products.

The Challenge:

The company had a contractual responsibility for in-country (Korea) manufacturing in support of the Korean cellular market. Timing was critical to release in-country products so that it could stay consistent with global product releases.

Baseline Request:

The company requested a complete third party review of the existing supplier and recommended go forward actions from our company. They also requested a strong focus upon scalability in the review.

Findings:

After conducting a two day in-depth audit of the existing supplier (prototype supplier), we provided a detailed report to the company outlining some of the major findings focused around inconsistencies in Provisioning (cell coverage) and Quality Control. We provided the company with an "assessment of significant risk" for the existing contract manufacturer to scale to production volumes. We also made recommendations to the company focused on rapid development of alternate suppliers.

Results:

The client accepted our recommendations and scoped involvement in a rapid alternate sourcing initiative. The company identified collaborative identification and mention of an alternate Korean contract manufacturer. They had a quick-turn contract negotiation, and were able to have a successful product release based upon an eight week manufacturing bring-up.
